Kids program

Since the earliest beginnings of Aikido Northwest we have had a heavy emphasis on teaching Aikido to children.

Fife Sensei has been continually teaching Aikido to children since 1980. He is still teaching many of the children’s classes at Aikido Northwest on a weekly basis.

We believe that now more than ever, the world and our nation need young people who are prepared to deal with the many complex problems and challenges of our modern world. People with the courage, intelligence, and perseverance to find enlightened and creative solutions to the many difficult challenges we now face in our world.

For these reasons we believe that teaching Aikido principles to our young people is of the utmost importance.

At Aikido Northwest, our children’s classes provide a unique way for young people to learn about personal empowerment through the integration of mind, body and spirit. Through the practice of Aikido students learn the importance of good posture, a centered and relaxed body, and focused awareness.

In the supportive group environment of the dojo, Children develop the ability to work effectively with others and follow the lead of a teacher. They learn to take responsibility for themselves and their actions, and to put their focused attention where they want it.

Of course at the same time, children are also learning to use their bodies effectively, defend themselves from harm, condition their bodies through rigorous physical practice, and have a great deal of fun in the process!

For these reasons, we often hear from the children’s parents that after some time in Aikido training, their grades improve at school and their relationships with friends and family become more productive and harmonious.

At Aikido Northwest, we have had the privilege on numerous occasions to have students who practiced with us as children return years later with their children to take the same classes they took in their formative years. This is a great honor, and a great responsibility.

Soon the leadership of the world will be in the hands of our children. We have the responsibility to do everything we can to help prepare them for that day. It is to this end that we devote our efforts to our children’s program at Aikido Northwest.

Please bring your child in to try or watch a class, and see if you find something of value and interest in our practice.
